    Afternoon, chaps.
Just had to take down some posts after a request from a copyright owner. (DC Thompson)

Please don't cut & paste entire articles.

To quote part of the email:
"Please be mindful of the fact that if you wish to reproduce publisher content, from whatever source, you need to secure the prior, written approval of the copyright owner, their publisher, or their agent. Failure to do so may involve legal action."

Yes, I know that articles sometimes disappear or fade into paywalls.
Saving them into your personal files is probably fine (not a lawyer), but to protect the old place just don't post the whole thing.
    Link to them.

I've a feeling this will become more of an issue as publishers scratch around in a world where their revenues are increasingly squeezed.
Let's not add fuel to any fires.

    Cheers,
    ~A

    Hmmmmm.

I for one will be voting with my feet and not buying any of their publications.

Kind regards, it's about the money not education, always,

    Jim.

    Not any more I don't :)

Kind regards, was that a double negative, always,

    Jim.

P.S. Not a copyright question Rich, but is your current avatar a case of A-ha perchance?

I'm cancelling subscriptions left right and centre here in an anti-D C Thomson frenzy. It will surely halve their profits by the time the day is out :)

I see they list Beano as one of their brands.

Seems they are the ones who should be worried about copyright and trademark infringment.

I think Adam is correct to bring this to our attention. I had a similar situation late last year from a copyright enforcing company, accusing me of using an image belonging to one of their clients. As it was, I hadn't, but they still threatened legal action if I did not remove it and wanted a retrospective fee for the prior use, which I did not pay.

In the end they went away, but as Adam mentions, these types of incidents will only increase as on line scrutiny increases.

It's exceptionally straightforward, and innate to the survival of the forum.

    There is Copyright Law.
No need to cut and paste entire articles. Link to them.
Most do that. It works, and reduces members' (and Otto, the owner's) exposure to this stuff.

Wish I'd never mentioned the copyright holder this agency pinged us on behalf of.
No need at all to antagonise or stir this up so I'm closing this thread.

Don't copy and paste entire articles.

    Cheers.
