Hi Could anyone help me identify this persons regiment or give me an idea of the theatre of war. I think it may be WW1 but not sure. It's a family photo whose name I am trying to find.
Definitely not WW1. Epaulettes have a crown indicating a Major's rank.- the stripe under the crown may have some significance. The far east is a likely location. Nothing I can see to identify unit- others may be able to add more. Scott
I’m not sure what the stripe under the Major rank means, I did find the following Australian epaulettes ranks but they don’t seem to match your photo.....but leads to possibilities Source: Badges of Rank; Australian Navy, Army, Air Force
The tin box on the left foreground is similar in size to the metal boxes used for elections, although no hinge or handles can be seen. I expect the label on the beer bottle is not clear enough to see. The rattan background and general layout makes me suspect this a posed studio photograph, possibly taken before going overseas. There have been other threads on such studio photos.
Thanks. I was fitting a family member into a time period to see if it was him. He served in WW1 and WW2, but not allowed an active role in WW2 because of age. He was a major in WW2.
