I don't like 'colourised' photos. (With AI imagery stuff)

    I shudder at colourised. Especially when the colouriser is lacking in knowledge.

    There's a new dimension to this 'dicking with the photographic record', and that's AI.
    You can already generate any pic you want, and the results are increasingly seamless. (Excepting the hands... It still struggles with hands.Though I'm seeing MidJourney starting to do convincing ones.)



    Give it a few years, and no photograph will ever be trustworthy again.
    The camera never lies... Errrm.

    I appreciate the example is a triviality, but...
    These things are created by a few keywords. No artistic/processing/program skills required (give or take a bit of post-processing to tidy stuff up if needed.)
    Completely fake. Somebody typed 'Musk & Barra holding hands' or similar, waited a bit, and got nearly photorealistic results.
    We're doomed.using 'photographs' as any reliable reference.

    Of course, but even into the Photoshop age it requires talent, care, and time to produce. With the results often being somewhat questionable.
    The AI things: no talent, keywords, very little time.

    There's various ways you can inspect digital images for manipulation, from suspicious exif to apps that inspect the file more deeply.
    That changes a tad with AI stuff.
    There's no reason the final file shouldn't be 'made' in exactly the way a camera does it, without any markers of manipulation.

    I wonder if we'll be using AI chatbots to identify AI images...
    Deary me. :unsure:

    Do I really have to be the optimist here? Oh dear :D
    It also takes a certain talent to know how to skillfully place a fake. And that, again, is in a whole other league.
    We are currently witnessing in real time how factors like OSINT + "nerdism" + group dynamics work in a networked environment in this regard....
    In any case, I'm very excited to see where this all leads.

    Big surprise, for me, has been when it chooses to affix text on to an image it is invariably gobbledegook, and something that a simple spell checker within the AI, or some sort of hard and fast command "not to change text" could sort out.

    Elements within these pictures can look oddly familiar, but overall it works best at producing "jokes" - I expect April 1st to be full of people's "discoveries" of remarkable "new" pics.

    That is odd.
    Though like many artists, the AIs had trouble with hands until the last few months, so I'm sure they'll sort it.

    Scope for political scandals, blackmails, etc. dwindles.
    Once these things are perfected,
    I shall simply accuse AI when damning photos come to light.

    Even though apparently nigh-on perfect AI images are available, it doesn't seem to stop congenital idiots from thinking that they can colourise at the press of a button.

    I know for a fact that this motorcycle left the factory painted in Khaki Green No.3. It has the original factory-painted serial number. It hasn't been repainted. I'm pretty sure that they're wearing army battledress. So what does Captain Colouriser do ? As our old friend Roger Waters once wrote. "It fills me with the urge to defecate".

    A truly classic example of taking an excellent contemporary shot, and robbing it of any and all quality or 'feel'.
    Though they have managed to recreate that faded illustrative style of the Ladybird books.... Unintentionally, but they have.

    Zoom in on the hands & faces. :whistle: Particularly one chap on the left who I think should probably get treatment...
    AI images already becoming an 'issue'. :unsure: Give 'em time...
