Planes of Fame Museum in California has a real Zero. They also have a Me-109.

It is, of course, HMS VICTORY at #485 above, but technically IMPLACABLE was still serving on the books as a training ship throughout the War, although others carried the name and fought too. The Luftwaffe had a tilt at her.

IMPLACABLE had begun its service as the 74 gun Third Rate Duguay-Trouin in 1800 under a different flag, so it was fitting that she carried the Tricolour with the White Ensign at her (nevertheless sad) end in 1949:

    A variation of # 43 earlier:

    and clearly:
    Bastogne 'NUTS'
although my first inclination, as the Domestic Chief of Staff collected them from our 'contorted hazel,' was a passable:

    Holderi, juwijuwidi, ha ha ha
(with some first and second verse of this catchy marching song).

Alas; this drew a schnippisch remark from passing neighbour Silke, who drew attention to the fact that I hadn't been Schwarzbraun for a number of years - and then recalled a comedy film from her teenage years (which featured the tune) entitled Das kann doch unsren Willi nicht erschüttern.

Silke then added that the English translation of the title was That can't shake our Willi.

My Domestic Chief of Staff, slightly bewildered by the voiced direction of conversation, meekly asked what the film was about. "German tourists in Italy", was the reply.

That's 3 strikes on the Thread title, methought. QED.

    Prompted by:
...... my very first thoughts were that she was going to get into trouble with the absence of shine on her brasses:

That knife must have been purloined as well. And to add to that, she was clearly a conchie!

Afternote: I have just read in the Media (4 Oct) that academics at an erstwhile seat of learning in England have deemed Fleming’s portrayal of the main antagonist and other characters in Dr No as “problematic”, warning the book and film contain instances of “racism and xenophobia”. I expect the direction of their next piece of research will focus on character appraisals of Churchill and Hitler, informed by comparison and evaluation of their individual artistic styles.
