I have come here to seek some help with my homework, i am in year 9 and we have to do a frontpage prject about the lifestyle of people who lived in world war 2, based in the UK.

Is there any homework tips you can give me, i already know loads about frontpage and ICT, maths and history are my 3 favorite subjects.

We have to this project from primary school children can view and see it, by ICT skills in this area are exellent, but my history skills are not as good, what are the mains tips for this project, baring in mind, we get graded for the content and the ICT part.

    Hello Robert

Lots of different experiences from which you can choose.

Maybe it would be best to choose a made-up family, with characters undertaking different tasks to show many aspects of wartime life in the UK.

    For example:

The father would be away in the Forces and had not seen his family for several years.

The mother would be struggling with young children, rationing and bombing.

One child might have been sent away to live with a family in the countryside (an evacuee) and the youngest children left with the mother.

The grandfather might be in the Home Guard (on duty during the evening and nightime) and also be "digging for victory" in his garden. He might be a WW1 veteran who is upset that another war has started and his son is having to fight: WW1 was meant to be "the war to end all wars", but it wasn't.

One could examine the experiences of each one; perhaps have a sheet of paper for each with photos and descriptions representing their daily life. You will find a lot of old wartime posters and pbotographs online, and I am sure for a school project no one will mind if you save and print them off.

There are some WW2 Home Front re-enactment programmes running on UKHistory; they are rather cheesey but will give you a good idea of how people lived.

It must be your lucky day robertall, I teach history and IT to year 9s!

With the history part concentrate on the following subjects:

Rationing (food and clothes), women at work, the blitz (where did people shelter? How dangerous was it with the Luftwaffe bombing cities and towns? Possibility of gas attacks) and evacuation of children (the movement of children away from the cities to the countryside in order to avoid the bombing).

www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk This website is an excellent place to start, what you would need to do is read the information then use pieces of information (don't cut and paste everything) to explain what life was like during wartime.

There are plenty of other websites around just type in things like 'women in war' or 'evacuation of children' to find what you are looking for.

Hello, Robert. I invite you to visit my Website -- clickable link in my signature block below -- which relates my own experiences growing up on the British Home Front in WW2. You may find some useful information there.

    Best regards,
