Your opinion on the better use for Hydrogen Peroxide, Type XVIII U-Boat based on type XXI hull design or V-2 Rocket?
If it was used earlier in the war and more afton the v-2. But it wasn't so in the actual war the better use was for the u-boat.
Your opinion on the better use for Hydrogen Peroxide, Type XXI U-Boat or V-2 Rocket? The Type XXI boats did not have the Walther engines, so did not need hydrogen peroxide. Like so many german designs, it was a case of too little too late. the would have been great boats had they been put into the Atlantic in any great number
Several sources I've read said that there were at least 2 prototypes with closed cycle diesel turbines.

I may be splitting hairs or just reading it wrong but aren't the type XVIII: U-796 & U-797 based on the same hull design as XXI but with the walter engines? So my sources may have referred to them as type XXI prototypes. http://www.uboat.net/types/xviii.htm I will rephrase my question accordingly and then apply for a job at Janes.

What Uboat net says is The XXI electro boat was extremely similar in appearance and size but used massive amount of batteries (3 times the power of the VIIC) to reach submerged speed of 17 knots. It may be that some people may have considered the type XXIII as a sort of prorotypes, as they beleived that the type XXi was some sort of fallback in case the walter engines did not work
The ME-163 Komet, The fastest plane of World War II, but a waste of resources for a dangerous barely successful operational interceptor. I'll have to find the book on Kriegsmarine or the old Janes book and see if I can come up with some pics of the U-Boats. The U-Boat site was very interesting.
A mechanical engineer called Walther had discovered the ideal solution when he invented a turbine that ran on special fuel. The essential thing about the Walther engine was that it did not rely on atmospheric air but obtained its essential oxygen from tanks of hydrogen peroxide. This was a U-boat Commander's dream. It is sad for a German to look back now and reflect on how it might have affected the fortunes of war had we not discovered it too late. <O:p All our submarine experts met at a resort in the Harz mountains</ST1:p to devise a U-boat best fitted for Walther engines. The answer was a boat about twice the size of our ordinary 600-ton operational type, built to dive to 150 fathoms, whereas our ordinary models were designed for 50 fathoms only. (At the end of the war we were doing 140 fathoms, and one ship actually achieved 180.) It was established, however, that the existing Walther prototype engine was only suitable for a small boat, and the production of larger units was beset with difficulties. An intermediate solution was found, by which, although the installation of Walther units had to be dropped, the new-construction hulls could be used with electric motors of considerably greater efficiency.<O:p</O:p <O:p Schaeffer, Heinz., U-Boat 977, Bantam, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:place>New York</ST1:place></st1:State> , 1981 PP131-2 FF <O:p</O:p<O:p</O:p Also, Peter Cremer in his book, U333, devotes a chapter and more about the Type XXI boats.<O:p</O:p ryr
Morse what's ryr? just random characters. If you put a lot of the message in quotes, the system says the message is too short, so i added them in order to post.
hydrogen peroxide sounds bloody scary in that context. certainly puts platinum blondes in the shade. Two blondes walk into a office building, you would have thought that one would have seen it!!!
Two fish swim into a cocnrete wall. One turns to the other and says "Dam!". I thought we were having this conversation in several other threads?
