    Anyone heard of them before?

I have a fullset from what I can gather minus the binders. I can't date them (Nothing on publishers details etc.) However as you can see from the pictures below they are sold in 'old money'.

I rescued them today from my ex wifes house after they were given to me by a friend of my fathers who passed away many years ago and haven't had a chance to look through them properly until next week :D

Front cover. I remember being told the cover was smaller due to paper shortages (I doubt that to be true)

A section about taking Aachen (Bottom left is intersting- they are filling a tram with expolisves before sending it towards the enemy)

    Drew,
I cannot say that I have seen that publication, but I do have a publication by Hutchinson on the British hstory and the quality is good.

It looks like you have a nice collection.

    Regards

    Andy,

It certainly looks like they were publishing during the war or the word propoganda would not have been used.
Try contacting your local Library records, they may be able to confirm.

Good find; they turn up from time to time. Worth having for the photos; much of the text is pure propaganda, however!

I have just had a flick through quite a few and like you say. Good pics (I'll post some that maybe of interest at some point) but the descriptions are a little unclear at times :)

Hello and cheers for the reminder.

I must dig these out and look for some Dunkirk/1940 France stories.

The publications were made into books, when i dont know.
    I have a set of 8 books,they have pictures/news from Sept 39 till Nov 1940.
So if they kept it up till the end of the war it would be a whole lotta books.
There are tons of pictures and some great maps

Looking at the ones I posted pictures of they must have gone through to the end of the war. The pictures are of Italy and 1944 France.

    Wow!
I think i remember reading that some of the cover price went to the war effort, that would make sense.
I have been having another look at mine, lots of info to be gleaned from the photos.
thx for making me dust them off

hello i have just signed into this forum and also have a large number of hutchinsons pictorials, which i have yet to sort (had them since aug 2010!). once sorted i will come back on line but there are some on the north atlantic convoys which may be of interest now the government has finally decided to recognise the service of the RN and merchant navy during that period.

I came into possession of what I'm pretty sure is the complete series - it runs from 27.08.39 to 21.08.45

If you look at the back inside page where it gives an account of what's been happening globably it is possible in most cases to work out what month / year each publication refers to. Why they never marked the booklet with dates on the front cover is beyond me.

They are not worth much money - they come up for sale on E bay occasionally. But they are interesting to own and your'e better off just storing them somewhere to refer to now and then. The photos are good but the articles tend to be generalised. During the war in many cases things had to be reported that way for obvious reasons.

If you want a particular edition identified let me know and I'll try to do that for you.

I have the full set of 23 volumes.
The first 16 have less pages and the last seven about twice the number of pages.
It appeasr the last seven deal with the war after the tide turned in favour of the allies.
They were the property of my great uncle and were given to me by his wife following his death in 1960.
I have no idea of value. I asked in a bookshop on one occasion and was told there were absolutely thousands of them about and he valued them at about 20 pounds for the 23 volumes. :D
I'm still looking for the word idiot written accross my forehead:)
