Allegedly into a house, coming to a standstill with the gun pointing towards a German woman in bed. Does anyone have any pictures of dispatch riders and their motor bikes please.
Oh now, That's cute! I really have a soft spot for Scout Cars. In fact, Von Poop can have an entire division of Tanks, for all I care. Me? I'd just Love my own little armoured run around. Always liked them. Finding out there was one called a " Ferret " was just the be all and end all for me!
Now then, that's not actually a Humber 'Scout', it's a humber 'Armoured Car' (Mark IV?). the more conventional meaning of a Humber Scout would be this little chap with the remote controlled Bren Guns: Bit more on Humber Scouts here: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/weapons-technology-equipment/16253-wd-number-query-excellent-vehicle-photographs.html And Steve, I like Armoured/Scout Cars even more than I like tanks .
Remote Controlled Bred Guns ??? Good lord! And Steve, I like Armoured/Scout Cars even more than I like tanks . Are you serious?! I mean, really, I've never had the least interest in 'cars' of any sort or description. But these little 'Pit Bulls On Wheels' have Always turned my screw, for some unfathomable reason. Then again; I like 'Pit Bulls' too There's just something about small, chunky things that trundle about, not taking any sh!t!
My late father told me that his Recce Troop had Humbers for a while before they were issued with Staghounds. My father never did say much about this vehicle, but I know that Trooper Tom Canning told me that they fitted with an automatic gearbox which caused some problems when on certain cross country terrain, like the gearbox running away when decending a steep slope. It looked a mean beast though. Regards Tom

Any good ian1gail Lovely shot of Humber light Recon Cars. Is your Dad driving one? Seem to recall a series of shots in the (still being repaired) gallery, and a thread a while back?

Yes Drew you can clearly make out a RAF sign in one of the pictures must have been one hell of a heavy scout car, not sure when they stopped using them. I believe they were used in Crete, Syria, North Africa and Iraq in the very early part of WW2
Weight for the Humber Light Recon at 6580LB according to Vanderveen, about 3 Jeeps-worth. (Though Hogg gives it a weight that's another jeep piled on top... hmmm, presumably mark difference - mark III was given 4WD to keep it up to spec for Italy and Europe, Mark II introduced a turret.)
Nice picture, From looking at the picture I take it he's RAF Reg? Cheers Andy That's right drew5233, he went across to France in August '44. Not sure of the exact location of the photo's. We do know that he went through France, Belgium and Holland. He was in 2777 sqn, but that was split into several flights, we think he was in 4 flight.
Thank you very much for sharing these pictures with me. I also remember my Dad talking about a Ben gun carrier. I know what one is now. My Sister has most of the war photos. I will liberate them and scan them in and post them.

There is a Humber armoured car and tank at Combermere Barracks in Windsor. They (The Household Cavalry) have a very decent museum there too if anyone's from that area.
