Does anyone know much about the role played by the Royal Corps of Signals at Dunkirk? I am specifically looking for info on L/Cpl Howard Gordon Cross see CWGC reference CWGC - Casualty Details

I also have a ref from the London Gazette see attached and I attach a photo of his grave which I took when I visited it in 2010.

    Many thanks.

According to CWGC, he was 3 Corps Signals. There may be some information in their diary - WO167/179.

3 Corps should have been evacuating by 30th May but he may have been assigned to remain or perhaps already wounded by that stage.

Have you been able to trace his MID citation ?

Corps HQ Signals included Line, Operating, D.R., Wireless, Line Maintenance and Tech. Maintenance Sections but his rank gives no clues to his trade.

Can someone move this to the 1940 section please :)

It will be a while before I can add anything but I will at some point if its in the 1940 section ;)

    Moved to 1940 section.

WO 167/179 - I knew there was a reason why I copied III Corps Signals war diary ages ago:
