I desire to wear a Poppy for this time of the year.
Does anybody have a recommendation on how to obtain one from an overseas, remote and under-developed (don't worry, we deserve it) location?

    Hi Stormy
If you have an RSA (or equivalent) they always have a stock, otherwise if you PM me your address I can send you one.

    Stormy,
I see Wendy has just offered to send one...
If the mail from Canada reaches you sooner, please PM me with your address. Timing is rather tight.

Thank you all. I've taken up on WGs very kind offer.

Timing isn't that crucial after all, as I reside where I do. Peope will get puzzled. And rest assured that I'll stop everyone who asks and give a thorough explanation !

If you go to www.poppyshop.org.uk you could contact them and ask them if they will post abroad ready for next year. Have a lovely metal poppy pin that I am trying to get hold of to go on my uniform.

I have one of the metal pins that I wear on my uniform (my very thoughtful Aunt sent it last year from Yorkshire), and I wear our NZ poppy in my beret.

Happy to oblige. The poppy that is available through the Royal Canadian Legion is made....in China:huh::confused:!. Blimey! ( as our British friends say ).

Just over 16,000,000 were supplied for Remembrance Day this year. And, happy to report, I see more and more twenty somethings wearing them.

So in preparation for 2011, I am happy to forward a dozen to anyone from across the pond. A PM with address will get them going.

Cheers from the igloos just north of the 49th parallel.

...........and he will ship them via slow frieght - those Chinese poppy's keep on falling out or else vaccinating me so I aquired a Canadian miniature flag and replaced the pin with the flag and press stud and it works just fine so I keep on donating but keep the one poppy - had it four years now- my return address labels also come from the Veterans ...just had another batch for Christmas but Santa is NOT a true likeness !

My own poppy, like the topic on this thread, had been here before as you will see from the link below.

This is what I said then:

I'll let you into a secret.

My poppy gets an airing just once a year and it's actually been the same one for the past twenty odd years !!!

This is simply because I always like to ensure that I have one ready for the AJEX parade.

Before you start saying "you stingy bxxxxxd !" I hasten to add that I always make sure that I make a donation to the first poppy seller I see in November.

    We shall remember them.

    Ron

This year, I hope to do better :)

As, G-d willing, I have made plans to attend both the National Parade on the 14th & the AJEX parade on the 21st so I just know I will have a chance to buy some new "stock" on the 14th on my way down from Leicester Square to the Horseguards assembly area.

:) You would be surprised how difficult it can be to get poppies in Europe,
or maybe I just look in the wrong places.

Couple years ago, had a friend from Alberta send a bunch, I
bury one in the different cemeteries I have visited.

My trip home in the summer, went down to the Esquimalt Legion and
    cleaned them out ! :D

Tim, more indications of your warped and depraved Canadian sense of humour:D. Everyone knows you cannot send beaver tails abroad...national treasure!

Well done Ron, my poppy has seen many years of wear also, but I still donate each year. Now my well viewed poppy is travelling to new and exciting locations, so this year I'll get another to see me through a few more years (plus extra stock as I put them on graves when I visit them).

I note that Purple Poppies are available this year to commemorate Animals in War - I for one will be making a donation for one in addition to the usual one to the Earl Haig Fund.
I believe that Dogs, Horses, Mules, Camels, Elephants and Pigeons plus some canaries were used in WWII, later in the cold-war Dolphins were trained by both the Americans and Russians in a counter diver / anti-mine role.
