If it wasn't for my research into my grandfather's demise in Burma, I would not of discovered my Romanian connection. When I read his service records back in 2007, I was drawn immediately to his description of having dark brown hair and eyes. Nobody in my direct family has brown eyes, not on either side. A few years later on meeting his descendants for the first time, the Eastern European blood was revealed.
I've forgot which is the Jocks & English on either side of my parents (i do really.) I do know that each Grandfather batted for each side in the Second World War (which makes it rather interesting from my point of view.) I'm hoping to get some small info on the other Grandfather who batted for the other side in September.
I am a Finn, and my father and mother's lineages are Finns since at least the mid-1600s. It is quite common here because there have been few immigrants until the mid-1970s, especially in the Eastern Finland from where both my father and mother was/is. On the other hand, there were many emigrants from the mid-1800s to the early 1970s.
English as far back as I've gone (c1750s) and Ag. Lab. the lot of 'em ! Oddly my Dad served in a Scottish regiment in WW2 and an Irish one in Korea..
Hi all, with this Thread, I actually only wanted all the Nations we have on the Forum. e.g. Brits, Irl. US, CAN, AUS, NZ, Germany, Italy, FIN Amazing what we now have. With the roots from my grandmother's side, I could be sitting in The House of Lords Stefan. NB: should I start a thread: EU vote, and now what?
What about the Norwegians - one of the first to be occupied, and the last to be liberated. There have been some Norwegian posters. I think my family might come from there. With apologies to those who don't like music - the last part from 15.00 is our Sailor's Hornpipe:
New Zealand of English & Scots descent, Dad came to NZ in 20's and parents met during war in England and both emigrated back to NZ leaving Liverpool on VJ Day. Cheers Geoff
