My boys just watched this on Horrible Histories. Bit of learning can be fun , glad they mentioned the Czechs & Poles. But when Churchill's words are played at the end it gets all serious & I got goosebumps. one here with lyrics if you want to sing along. I've seen this before, Owen and have to say I like it. I know the presentation isnt to everyone's taste but you have to remember the age group its aimed at. It does contain a lot of facts as you say and if it helps kids remember, so much the better. I felt the same way at Churchill's words at the end. Keith
I must admit when I first saw Horrible Histories I was a bit shocked at the tactics, some of it is quite gruesome and disgusting!.....But one of my kids loves it and knows far more about history now than if it had just been taught at school. So hats off to them it really is a brilliant way of teaching. Same....Shivers at the end! JJS.
HH is a great programme, my Daughter's watch it all the time its done in such a way that the kids pay attention and really learn facts, my eldest has loads of the books as well wonder who bought those for her........
Horrible Histories is one of the best kids programmes that i love to watch. Really educational in a wierd and wacky way
I grew up with Horrible Histories books. Frankly what got me into History as a whole, and the transition to television has worked very, very well... Shows what a whippersnapper I am at times...
Well I learnt something yesterday from my lad's Horrible Histories book on the British Empire. The particular fact in question came to my attention as we have a forum member called 'peccavi' I now know abit more about that word & it's connection with an aspect of Empire. OK , yes I know, maybe that is a fact I should have known anyway.

Just spotted this thread and so I used the link to the video to see what it was all about. I have to admit that while I appreciated the professionalism of the scene I was not over impressed and I think it underestimates the ability of our kids to understand a serious subject without having to dress it up with dancing airman. I have seen for myself how 6 to 7 year olds can respond to talk about ww2 and I think this video is not necessarily the best way to approach the subject. In November 2011 I spoke about my own experience.: http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/34223-ww2-history-in-schools/page-5 Comment #127
My lot all liked the vibe of Horrible Histories, something to dip in to, books, dvds and TV. As it's not really intended to be a single source but is firstly entertaining/entertainment, I don't think it should be judged too harshly for its approach. In other words it's good to have history theme in the books & TV, alongside the usual comics & cartoons for kids and their curriculum. http://www.birminghamstage.com/current_productions/horrible_histories_tudors_and_victorians
Ditto, D. My Eleven & Nine year olds are mad keen history buffs, largely triggered by the output of the horrible Histories team. It's also one of those rare kids programmes that grown-ups can watch & laugh at too (plus at least one thing I never knew on every episode, which almost always stands up to checking). I mean, Dickens in a Smiths stylee with Al Murray on Drums... what's not to like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2Dy2n2H2qA
