Are you Misreading a hand written document, we need to see the original to understand the context.

    Do you mean Liap Leave?

'HOPLEAF' was written clearly in capitals in my father's records of leave from the Royal Engineers - 15th August 1945. It could also be 'HOP LEAF' - many thanks for writing. - David

Perhaps the writer was dispeptic and meant HOME LEAVE

I have the same in my grandfather’s leave card. Clearly says HOPLEAF

Looks more like an AB64 than a Service Record perhaps our member might be able to help decipher it.

I’m also wanting to know what ‘hop leaf’ leave is. It’s in my father’s records too.

A slim possibility that this is previous adopted/recognised services spiel for Malta; maybe.

Did any of your folks ever mention being on "leave" in Malta, or in Malta at all otherwise? Any photos or souvenirs of/from Malta amongst family stuff?

Thinking this is only one step beyond straw-clutching on my part (or beer clutching!).

    Kind regards, and cheers, always,

    Jim.

Good advice from Uncle T. Looking at the image posted by JOgilvie it would appear to be a type of leave. Just guessing: HOmePrivilegeLEAveFree warrant.

Can we see some more pictures, preferably of the whole page, where it appears. There may be clues in other entries as to what HOPLEAF means.

p.s. Hopleaf beer; a very distinctive taste. Brings back memories of two weeks army cadets camp in Pembroke Barracks back in the 1960s.
