I am new so this might be in the wrong place. I have been going through some of my Great Uncles papers and have found a lot of information on the Home Guard in Allerton Liverpool. This includes Maps and a clothing log book. Can anyone help me find more about what he was doing in WW2. I have found him in WW1 and would like to finish his War record. Housemouse
Hi Housemouse Welcome I assume he was only in the Home Guard during WW2? Apply here for his records - Request Home Guard service records - GOV.UK TD
Hi Housemouse There were 11 Battalions of the Lancashire Home Guard in Liverpool, numbered 82nd to 92nd. The 84th were based at Woolton not far from Allerton I believe. The 90th, 91st and 92nd Battalions comprised employees of Liverpool Corporation, LMS Railway and the General Post Office respectively. The duties would have been much the same as other HG Battalions across the country, a trawl of local newspaper will probably give you info on the local HG. Dave
Hi Tricky Dicky Yes, he was only in the Home Guard in WW2. He was with the Royal Garrison Artillery in the first War, as a layer, responsible for sighting the 6" canon. Thanks for the link, it will be great to find out the rest of his war history. Housemouse
Hi Dave, thanks for the info. I am guessing he was with the 84th as he lived very near there. He was with the RGA siege company in WW1. Thanks Housemouse
Hi Housemouse It would be good to understand whether the maps or other documents contain details or locations of any of the defences the Home Guard manned?
Hi Skoyen There are two maps. Showing the railway in red. map 1 shows Bowring Park, Edge Lane and Broad green. The paper has embossed a Lion and Unicorn crest, Could be from the Customs House. He worked there. 2 Shows the same but further over showing Thingwall Lane. This is near Knotty Ash, I lived there once. One of the other things is a Clothing Roll for 'D' Platoon. This has names and Numbers. There are photographs and other thing. Sorry I have to go now but will get back soon HouseMouse
Just found another Map bigger than the other two and looks like OS printed. This is of Aigburth, Liverpool. It marks Gun placements and first aid posts. At the bottom it says 85th Battalion oc Number 4, H G. Platoon 'C' Company. Housemouse
Hi Is there any way of finding out who was in the "C" platoon. I have names and initials and their clothing roll numbers, plus photographs. Housemouse.
You could try local directories at your local library. If you have access to Find my Past you could look here: 1939 Register from Findmypast | findmypast.co.uk Dave
Does anyone have information about Pipe Majors in the Lancashire Home Guard? Sam Adie was P/M of the 85th West Derbyshire Battalion and I believe there was also a Pipe Band in the 86th County of Lancashire Battalion. Your help will be appreciated. Thanks. Aad
Hi I'm tracing my grandad, John (Jack) Kennedy, Fazerkerley. He was a member of the homeguard an officer, Lieutenant ?, I guess due to his service on the ww1.
