Can anyone help me to narrow down the attached ARP badge to 'Whitchurch Hospital'?

As I am sure everyone will know, there are many villages called Whitchurch in the UK and I live near the one that is in north Cardiff. Within the village is a hospital that at various times has been called an asylum, psychiatric hospital, mental hospital, Metropolitan War Hospital, Cardiff Emergency Hospital etc etc.

I bought this ARP badge a few years ago in a Lockdales Auction, in the hope that it may be from my area, but so far, I have had no luck in proving it one way or another. I know that there is a Whitchurch Hospital in Shropshire, so it could well be from that part of the UK.

    Can anyone offer any thoughts?

    Cheers,

    Ceri. View attachment 382258

No 5 Platoon H Company Cornard Home Guard was taken on the day when the platoon was stood down -we presume that this was in 1945.

    Hello!

I'm currently putting together an article exploring WW2 Rutland for the forthcoming Autumn/Winter edition of Discover Rutland (Visitor Guide) and I'm hoping you might be happy for us to reproduce this photograph of the Rutland Home Guard's Officer's badge in the publication. We would of course acknowledge your contribution in our list of contributors at the front of the publication.

Our first 'Vale of Valour' feature explored Rutland's contribution to the First World War - but as I'm sure you can imagine, we really only scratched the very surface of the tales that are to be told. I've pasted a screenshot below:

    upload_2024-6-21_17-33-28.png

In my next Vale of Valour feature, I'd love to be able to whet our readers' appetite with stories of the following:
    • Rutland’s heroes - at home and abroad
    • Rutland Home Guard
    • Land Girls & Digging for Victory in Rutland
    • Dambusters connection to Eyebrook Reservoir (Guy Gibson's No. 617 Squadron)
    • The American 82nd Airborne Division
    • PoW Camps
    • Evacuees in Rutland
If you have any other high resolution photographs or information that you'd be happy to be used in an article like the one posted above, I would really appreciate it.

    Kind regards,

    Ruth

This is an interesting photo. The front looks a bit like a Beaverette, though that was a Standard not a Humber. It might be a local variation on that design, particularly as the Beaverette could never hold that many. The Home Guard did make their own armoured vehicles, but most had gone by 1944. NIcely detailed markings as well. Thanks for posting.
