I don't want to run the risk of spamming Airborne Medic's Arnhem related thread.

Thanks...Gotthard.....so I'll start a new thread without the dreaded words that I'll not mention!

Perhaps in the same way that theatricals refer to "The Scottish Play", we should refer to "The American film" - It doesn't really matter which one as they all follow the same agenda.

Personally I quite enjoy sitting down with my Dad (R.Sigs 1943 - 47) over a decent malt and having a good laugh at it all. If I had a quid for every time he's said "...but the bloody Yanks weren't even there" !

The cynical manipulation carried out by film makers does no service to the real U.S. Service personnel.

Imagine as well how aggrieved the Canadians must feel about being left out of everything.

    Rich -
For a good old belly laugh - I would have NO hesitation in recommending the American version of that film which will now be known as 'that American film' - it's truly a hoot - and as you say does the GI's no service whatever but that doesn't matter as they run commercials all the time exhorting the superiority of their army etc - and they lap it up - whereas we Canadians just tend to smile and nod our heads - that is ever since they finally managed to print maps of North America with Canada on them whereas before they would publish maps with Canada being " An Unexplored Region "
Now you have to laugh a lot at that sort of nonsense - we shall be laughing a lot more when they run out of water -or Oil - or Gas - which won't be long !
    Cheers
