    Hi,

The only military cemetery in the world where I've come away spitting feathers! The ABMC certainly went down in my estimations after visiting here!!! (i've always felt comfortable visiting ABMC cemeteries (and have visited every single one in Europe at least once)... I still do (and will), but, in the 10 years since my last visit to the Normandy cemetery, wow! how things have changed! I certainly won't be seen back in this one unless I really have to!)

...far more up my street (even though the "celebrity worship" occasionally found in the cemeteries of some other nations seems to be creeping into some VdK cems too (Wittmann in this case)... La Cambe Soldatenfriedhof...

    Was it the "airport security"?

    Got it in one!

That, and the "car park attendants", the (enforced) rules and regulations and then to be smacked in the face with signs saying "Quiet and Respect" was all too much for me , I'm afraid. What's going to happen in the next 10 years? Charges for entrance perhaps? (you've got me ranting again!!!!)... a real "sell out" IMO. If I had a family member buried in there, I'd be really regretting not having had them repatriated when i could have done!

(...and ...(nearly finished ranting now!)... if i were of the Roosevelt family, I'd be thinking that we got it the wrong way round when moving Quentin to Normandy... Oise-Aisne is a far better final resting place)

    (finished now.:))

Couldn't agree more, but I suppose it is the reaction to 1+ million visitors a year. I am sure other sites will follow their lead...

Yeah, indeed appalling security at the Colleville cemetery.
I am very willing to pay my respect but not on command.

Over all I like the gardenlike CWGC cemetries much better. And where can you make pictures like this?
