:)Well my forum friends I am off to Albufeira in Portugal for 10 days and so I thought I would start a summer holiday reading thread. I know we have a "what are you reading" thread but what you put in your suitcase is something else'

    Mine is

Wavell Desert War Volume 1 (thanks Tom Canning!)

Biography of Bert Trautmann (goalkeeper and German Pow-as I am Man city fan)

Persuasion Jane Austin-just a calming read from a genius writer

    Teach yourself German

I also have a wee self imposed postcard experiment to send my friend Tom postcards to see how many days months or ....it takes to get from Portugal to Canada

    See you all soon!

    Susan

    Susan -
you may just have put a kink in our friendship by claiming to be a Man City supporter...... from an old dyed in the wool Villa supporter...!

It is possible that you will be extending your vacation if you try reading that lot -Bert Trautman's tale should be interesting as will be your Father's contribution to Wavell's Command !

So have a great holiday and watch out for sunburns on the children by getting too near one lager !

    Cheers

I wont be near any lager but may gaze at the sea over a glass of the fruit of the wine...

What happened in Portugal in the war? My war knowledge is very localised-well North Africa, Italy, D day etc....

    Watch out for the postcards....

Drats, and I'm on the other end of the country!

What happened? Nothing except for selling ores and sardines to both sides, and the odd airplane being interned, 1943 was a good year for that :D

Oh, and we acquiesced on ceding basing rights to ASW planes in our Atlantic Isles, lest they were taken over outright ;)

Travelled to USA, Spain (including Balearics), and Estonia but at an age beyond 40 (aah) never been to Portugal. I like Port-that must be a start

    War wise-just as I expected!!
