    Greetings,

I am new to this forum and this is my first post. My question is if there is anyone that may have information on HMS SURF. I know that in WW1 that she was an auxiliary patrol vessel and Armed Boarding Vessel (armament 2 x 12pdr.) and in WW2 employed on contraband control.

Is there any more information available or this it. I thank you in advance for reading my post and think the administration has put together a fantastic site on WW-II.

    Thanks

Sorry I couldn't help you much either. The only listing I had for a "Surf" was the one below which was requisitioned for the RN.

SURF, Yacht (R, 496t, 1902) Sunk by aircraft at Piraeus, Greece, 41/04/06

Hopefully someone else may be able to provide further details.

    Regards

    Geoff

There is a mention of a HMS Surf at the following URL
    It is an obituary.

    http://submarinesaustralia.com/newsletters...epth_feb_04.htm

Albert Henry GIBBS. Albert, better know to his friends as Bertie,

Bertie then joined HMS SURF in later May 1943 in time to undertake anti-U-boat duties in the area northwest of the Shetlands. On completion of the patrols, SURF was sent to the Mediterranean and was the first submarine to undergo patrols from the 1st Flotilla based at Beirut; all the patrols were off the Greek Islands. In December 1943, SURF was ordered to proceed to join the Eastern Fleet Flotilla in Ceylon (Sri Lanka), from there; the submarine undertook two patrols in the Malacca Strait and later, another two mine-laying patrols off the west coast of Siam (Thailand). Unfortunately for the crew of SURF, especially for the engine room staff there was no air conditioning in the boat and there were reports of the crew fainting from the heat, Bertie stayed with the boat until April 1945.

There is also a brief description on the www.uboat.net site , but I think you already have that info.
