HMS Neptune

    "Home Truths", the John Peel show on BBC Radio 4, has just broadcast an item about the sinking of HMS Neptune in December 1941.

    The sole survivor of the ships crew, an Asdic Operator, Able Seaman Walton, appeared on the prog. along with the captains adopted daughter.

    Many of the crew were New Zealanders. Part of a greetings prog. they made for broadcast at home in New Zealand that Christmas was played, introduced by the captain.

    It seems as if the ship sailed into a minefield. Something seemed a bit "fishy" about this? I got the impression that the ship was supposed to have been told about the minefield. Was it a British minefield?

    I see that there is a website dedicated to HMS Neptune http://www.hmsneptune.com/

    It looks interesting and they have a discussion forum too. :)
