Hi all, I’m wondering if anyone can help me. My great uncle served on board HMS Itchen. Itchen was torpedoed and sunk by U-666 in the North Atlantic on the 23rd September 1943, there were only three survivors of the 233 crew and sadly, my great uncle wasn’t one on those three. He was Walter John Dunster, a leading cook. What I would like to find is, is there a photo somewhere of the actual ship itself? Google hasn’t been all that useful, and I would be interested to locate a photo of his ship, if possible, for the family album. Many thanks indeed, Best regards, Simon
Not photographs but the Canadian War Museum has some paintings and sketches related to the Itchen Search the Collections | Canadian War Museum
IWM has some films, not available online at present, presumably you can view there or they will copy for a fee I believe: https://film.iwmcollections.org.uk/search/results#/?query=hms%20itchen&type=list
Hi all, Many thanks indeed, that’s great. I’ll have to look into the IWM footage! Thanks for your help. Best regards, Simon
