Destroyer HMS Hero suffered the following casualties on the 28th March. ROGERS, Albert J, Able Seaman, C/JX 174132, killed [ChM] WYLLIE, Andrew N, Able Seaman, D/JX 182525, killed [PlyM] A third member of the crew is buried at Tobruk, after dying at 62nd General Hospital, so he may have been wounded in the same incident. BUTLER, Eric W C, Able Seaman, D/JX 223575, DOW 31/3/42 [TOBRUK WAR CEMETERY] I have not been able to find any record of the ship being damaged, but it was operating in the Eastern Mediterranean, wonder if it was attacked whilst escorting a convoy to Tobruk. Any ideas? Regards, Steve
Steve, From navalhistory.net 28.3.1942. Hero, bombing. ROGERS, Albert J, Able Seaman, C/JX 174132, killed. WYLLIE, Andrew N, Able Seaman, D/JX 182525, killed. 31.3.1942 - Hero, bombing. BUTLER, Eric W C, Able Seaman, D/JX 223575, DOW. Regards Hugh
Hi Hugh, Thanks, yes saw that. ADM104 also has their deaths as on war service, with AB Butler dying at Toburk. I just can't locate any information on whether the destroyer was damaged when they became casualties. There is no record in ADM234/444 for any damage, but I have seen other incidents that also were not recorded in that document. Regards Steve
