    Hi
Does anyone else on this board know of or have relations on the Charbydis?
My eldest brother was killed in action, he was 19years old at the time, was a first class stoker, there is an association re the ship and they attend a memorial service every year in Guernsy, unfortunately, by the time I discovered the association I was unable to travel due to disability so was unable to attend, how I wish I could turn the clock back a few years!

I had hoped I may have found amongst the members, someone who knew my brother, but unfortunately not, his name was James Victor Barr, I was only 12 years old when he died, so feel quite cheated that I was never to know him when I grew up, my last memory of him was kissing him goodbye when he left after a 48 hr leave to go into action, he was dying to see action!
We had just moved into a new council house, and that was the first & last time he was in it, I remember his face feeling scratchy and he told me was growing a beard, he had also been learning to smoke a pipe!! probably felt this this made him look so grown up! I often wonder did he have a girlfriend?? or a special friend somewhere?

    Hell again Maud :)

If you click on this link to the Charybdis-Limbourne Assoc. (So named after the two ships lost in the same action.)

There is also quite a bit on the WW2 Charybdis and her sinking in 1943 on the Internet.

    http://www.charybdis-limbourne.co.uk/flash/members.htm

They have an AGM in Birmingham.

(There was also another HMS Charybdis, a Leander Class frigate serving in the 1960s-80s.)

Hope it helps; I've usually got a good response from contacting such people and an awful lot of WW2 vets seem to be around.

I'd be most interested to hear how you get on.

    Best regards,

    Richard
