    Hello,

I’m researching one of our old ferries which, it turns out did some service during WW2! I’d love to hear any stories about the Isle of Guernsey, which was a Southern Railways ferry sailing between Southampton and the Channel Islands! I know she sailed some RAF personnel over to France, 4.9.1940 was taken up for military duty 23.9.39 and became Hospital Carrier No 26 and 19.10.39 sailed to Dieppe to await casualties 26.5.40 embarked evacuees at Dunkirk August 1940 she became an RAF target ship at Penarth, October 1940 commissioned HMS Isle of Guernsey November sailed to lamlash.early 1943 she became a radar training ship. September 43 chosen for conversion as a landing ship landed on Juno beach on D-Day. January 45 began sailing between dieppe and newham . April 45 carried forces leave personnel across the channel. June 45 re-established mail services to the Channel Islands.

I’d love to fill out this information with anything else anyone knows and see any pictures of the boat!

    thanks in advance
