Stand by to an update to this thread, I have found one of the platoon commanders who was there at the time. I'm off to lunch with him next weekend..... I'm so very excited and nervous at the same time to be meeting someone who fought in this action.
Thanks Andy, and have i got an interesting follow up for you!!!! having been diging around in an old archive up in Glasgow, I came across an old folder that hadn't been catalogued yet and it contains the original hand written letter that this is typed from, also it has the letters from Trenchard and several from Tod about what happened. I will attempt to get them photographed (as the archive lent me the folder!) and posted up here.
Good afternoon all! WHAT A FIND!!! Blimey!! Jinkies and Wow!! Attached is a letter from Lt Col. Tod to Batty (Betty??) which was in the papers of Carlton Smith Inglis. detailing the actions of the 2nd Bn during their actions near Ypres. Problem being I'm terrible at reading handwriting and his has got to be one of the worst I've ever seen! Can anybody assist? thanks chaps Iain
Two other letters that were in the deed box that I'd like to share with all the other people interested in 1940.
