I see the Kilts and I think Scotland, perhaps the 42nd Regiment of Foot, they were in India for a while IIRC.

The Kilts are definetly the answer though by the looks of it, I will start looking unless someone else beats me to it.

Are Sporrans definitely unique patterns for each unit?
    Seem to be.
    If so, could these be:

"Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders OR's Volunteer
    Sporran
    1937 issue
Black horse hair body with six white tassels and
    chrome cantle"
Scottish Highland antique and military regimental sporran

And now I know what a 'Cantle' is...

    Owen -

I think you are right with the six tassles and white hackle - as the Black Watch has five black tassles and red hackle - all the old regiments - as opposed to the New Labour amalgamations had distinctive sporrans - for recognition at distance - there must be a book on them somewhere - the "Agile and Sufferins" had the biggest cap badge as well - they did have the biggest heads just because they were always first into battle......now wait for the survivors of 1st and 8th battalions ....
    Cheers

Ken - as a PS and confirmation of Owen's notes - you will find a full explanation of the "Agiles" - by one of the Scottish tailors - who just has to know his stuff - or else ....you might also note that the bandsmen has two black tassles as opposed to the normal regimental sporran six white tassles - don't ask !

Eleven - we are talking Scottish regiments here - not Australian ones ....
    Cheers

Many thanks for all that info, at least I can write something on the back for the grandchildren.
Being an ex BJ, I have trouble working out what platoons, troop, regiments consist of, and I thought a squadron was only about aircraft, I have much to learn about the Army way doing things, having worked with 21 & 224 siggy, it doesn't enter one's head to ask those type of questions.

Thanks again for all info you guys have given, on my different posts. There's more coming soon.

    Ken.
