  1. Hi,

I cannot find any service record for my husband's grandfather RSRS Higgs service number maybe 546771.

Marriage certificate (16.02.1929) says trooper, 7th Hussars, Colchester Barracks. Only have front page of his Certificate of Service.

    Any help gratefully received.

As per the advice on your other post for your husband's other grandfather Francis Charles Harvey (and TD's post above) you need to apply for his service records.

Can you also let us know if you able to access any of the online family history sites (Ancestry, Findmypast etc) ? I ask this as it is not uncommon for us to spend a great deal of time and effort only to find out that the originator already knew the information.

  5. Thank you Tony. I am so grateful for your kind assistance. Yes I am a subscriber to Ancestry and have world wide access. I appreciate you comment, so yes I can access census returns etc. This is the first time I am having a close look at this ancestor and now I have your information will send for his personal record too.

Once you have a serviceman's records you will get a timeline of their service with the units they were with, you will then be able to research further by seeking out the war diaries for the particular units. Come back once you have the documents and I would be surprised if someone around here can't help you further. Good luck.

Interesting forename Redvers....probably named after General Redvers Buller,Devon born who fought in the Boer War and history records without distinction.Earlier he was awarded the VC for action in the Zulu Wars...... have an uncle who was given the same name and was born a little earlier than Redvers Higgs.
