    Very interesting.....thanks for posting.

My father worked at Ardeer during the war. Most of the dispersed munitions bunkers are still there and can be seen on Google Earth... plug in :

Never heard of this place, although I've been to a similar place long ago. Quite a bit online and this is from a 2019 article:
From: https://harcruins.wixsite.com/ruina...s-abandoned-places-as-islands-of-biodiversity and Ardeer, Ici Works, Nobel's Explosives Factory | Canmore

The factory was an ICI plant or ICI Noble was an explosives factory for the best part of a century before closing in the 1960s. Lots of recent reports on the site, with photos. See: Report - - Ardeer ICI bomb shelters and surrounding areas. | Industrial Sites

Note a train enthusiast site states the site was open till 1996, although other sites refer to an ICI Noble factory remaining on a nearby smaller site. See: Industrial Narrow Gauge Railways

This might explain better when the plant closed! The punchline is the last sentence:
From: Secret Scotland - ICI Ardeer

There was a local museum once. See: The Big Idea (museum) - Wikipedia

Google mapping suggests the plant extended across the River Garnock; plus a photo on previous link. If you search Google maps with ICI Ardeer map there is an annotated map which is really useful. Yes, the site extended across the river.
