Air Vice-Marshal A G Dudgeon, CBE, DFC, Hidden Victory - The Battle of Habbaniya, May 1941, Stroud, 2000 (ISBN 0752420372).

Tony Dudgeon was there, mainly flying Airspeed Oxfords modified with his own bombrack design to carry 20lb bombs. Together with Hawker Audaxes and Fairey Gordons the Oxfords of 4 FTS drove off the Iraqi Army which threatened RAF Habbaniya and saved the oilfields.

The best part of the book is where the author talks of the military side.

146 pages with some good maps and a first class cover painting by Frank Wootton.

I suppose Middle East Command or India or someone would have retaken the oilfields but because of Tony Dudgeon and his chums they didn't have to.

    Happy reading,
    David

Got it. Interesting book, for the cover art alone.

A truly unknown campaign. The Iraqis probably know it well, though.
