Hi everyone. :) In the last year I have become interested in learning more about World War II. It is a war that was before my time, but not by much. I grew up as a boy, who knew that the generation before me fought a large battle. It was one that both 6th teachers of my elementary school, two of only three male teachers both were in the service.

Going through school, we had history and naturally World War II was near the end of the year for learning about, and also was taught hurriedly, maybe because it was painful to our teachers. :frown:

In any event about a year ago I came across letters, and small mementos of my late uncle. These mementos included over a hundred letters that dated from the late 1920s, the 1930s, 1950s 1970s and till his death in 1996.

But also in these two shoe boxes were over 100 letters he had written, or his mom, or his brother, or his two aunts, or a few other acquaintances or cousins had written him, or he to them.

I started reading these letters last winter and took notes. I decided that I wanted to learn more about the war and do something innovative about, so I started to write about his war years, and they aren't much in the way of blood and guts, but they chronicle his years in the war from his induction notice of January 1943 until he came home late September 1945.

I have transferred his web-pages from my website to his own domain and have been adding historical information along with his writings. Some in my own hand and many now in his own hand, as the majority of his letters fortunately were typed.

If there is any interest I will post the URL. There is also a Blog. The site is Beta. I have spent much time on it, but have few resources to spend more than an hour or so a day. I am enjoying doing this, but have to concentrate on my programming and website work. I have innovative ideas for this, and part of that innovation is to have feedback on the site from others.

My anti-virus tells me your site is "suspicious" but I think you are genuine and that my anti-virus mistrusts you simply because you are new :)

Your Blog is coming along fine..... Well done !

    Thanks Ron,

The blog is from Google's Blogspot. I thought of Wordpress, but I first started using Blogspot and I understand it better. Thanks.

The anti-virus warning may be the Ads on the right. I may remove them, especially if someone else has this problem. They are Google Ads I put on the right side. But I am thinking of using the right side for other content. :Hydrogen:

I have posted a new blog, after testing my blog. I have set it up to take anonymous comments now. I also posted a picture of my uncle. I am going to include on my uncle's website, but I am not sure if it is at Fort McClellan, Alabama or at Camp Shenango, Pennsylvania. (I know it wouldn't be in the Aleutians, and I don't think it was in Memphis, Tennessee)

Hi Bobprof, first off welcom to WW2talk.
Very interesting reading your Uncle's letters, (I have many to read yet) they give a real sense of 'intimacy' if I might use that word. The personal details (eg asking for a camera and needing permission to use it) and the descriptions of unaccustomed scenery bring the letters to life.
You say it's not 'blood and guts' - well most peole's war service probably wasn't in the front line but they all had their hairy moments I am sure and all deserve our respect for 'doing their bit' as we say over here. I look forward to reading some more pages when I get the chance and well done for your efforts to publicise your Uncle's service and his letters.
You will find the members of this site both friendly and very knowledgable. They will help with any research you are undertaking, often with almost instant results.

Thanks Mike. I appreciate it. My uncle was one of four siblings. He was a caring and very giving person.

Owen, the Red and White 2 signifies '2nd Army'.

Good Read so far, Bob. I like reading that kind of thing.

I found a 404 with the "Stanley' Letter" link.

Post your site over at WW2F.com, they'd like to see it there also.

SlipDigit- The page is fixed now. Thanks. By the way, if you see any more problems, please let me know, either in the 'contact' form or the 'blog' or here if you want.

To Ron on suspicious site, I haven't been able to access the site. Since last night I can not get to ww2talk.com. I am a computer guy, so I am using another computer to write this. I tried clicking on your url but get nowhere. I will try to click from this computer after I post this.

To others if I can't get on, I will update on my site, as I am using this computer remotely and it's hard to navigate.
