Hi everyone, this is my first post on World War 2 Talk. Looking forward to contributing to the various topics. My main interest is collecting war medals. This is ever since since my Uncle gave me his five WW2 unnamed medals when I was 14 years old. I'm 51 now and haven't stopped collecting medals since!

    Regards, Andrew

Thanks for the welcome guys. I've had a good look around this website already and am very impressed with the content.

I recently finished researching the 40 casualties on the Sutton-in-Craven war memorial from WW1 with the help of the Great War Forum - Harry Lund being the most infamous as KevinW4 has already alluded to earlier in this thread!

The story of the 'forgotten' Harry Lund (KIA in the Bristol Channel, Feb 1918) ended up featuring on YTV Calendar News last November 11th 2010 (Armistice Day) and my initial inquiry into 'who Harry Lund was' eventually got transferred to Classic Thread status! :D

So pretty soon fellas I'm going to be tackling the 15 names on the Sutton-in-Craven war memorial from WW2. I've a feeling though it could be a little more challenging than the 40 from WW1, not least because the service papers from WW2 are still under lock & key :p

So you might be hearing from me again shortly with sleeves rolled up. Can only give it a go! Cheerio for now, Andrew

Thanks again guys...........KevinW4, well done on supplying the names above from CWGC. You've managed to find 3 recipients who are NOT listed on the Sutton-in-Craven war memorial!

    ANDERTON, GEORGE ALFRED (Sutton-in-Craven)
    DUNN, RAYMOND FRANK (Sutton-in-Craven)
    JACK, HORTON CAMERON (Sutton-in-Craven)

How did you manage to discover the names of these additional Sutton casualties??? :poppy:

The other men are all listed on the memorial, except for DINSDALE, GEORGE COLIN - looks like he was from Skipton.

Good work again Kevin, best Andrew
