    Evening All,

A long time lurker & finally thought I would start contributing. Long time interest in WW2, spiked even more by digging into the service of both of my great uncles, who served in Italy & Africa.

Looking forward to getting stuck in and making the most of this fantastic site.

    Cheers
    Gavin

    Hello and welcome Gavin,

Let's start the ball rolling, as they say.

What were your great uncles' names and regiments?

    Hi & welcome

As a long time lurker you will know its important to obtain service records before really getting into research on a relative

    Good luck

    Thanks All.

In answer to some of the above, I have obtained both of their service records & can now concentrate on getting into the nitty gritty of their service. I have been concentrating on my Great Grandfather from WW1 for the past god knows how many months!

Trevor John Conway (14400719), East Surrey Regt, served in North Africa as part of the MEF.

Thomas John Conway (3962234), Royal Sigs, served in North Africa & Italy (he was awarded the Italy star, but it isn't obvious from his records where/when, so something else I need to look into).

    Thanks for the welcome:)

Would suggest starting a seperate thread for each, even Great Grandad, although hes WW1 I guess you will know we cover quite a wide area on here

Will do Tricky - I'm not going to go off on a tangent in this thread (very easy to do so) - I am going to do as much digging as I can, and will add them into the relevant area:D

    GPMB.

Could you put up the Service Records so that we can see the movements of both men?

You get awarded the Italy Star for serving in Italy. Nothing more.

    Regards

    Frank

    minden1759 of course.

Not yet being overly familiar with the forum rules - am I better off putting them in the service records section?

As suggested earlier probably better to start a thread for each relative that way all information that relates to them will be contained within that thread, and therefore not across ?X? number of threads

Put them in the Searching for Someone & Military Genealogy section

    Thats my opinion anyway

Ive added a thread into the Service Records section as I have queries over a Italy Star entitlement - thanks all.
