A car has been found in a barn cose to Hradec Kralove (Königgratz), old Mercedes 320B. The founder planned to repair the car and have a nice veteran, but when he started the repairs, he noticed that the right-hand part of the car, esp. the rear, was extensively repaired already somewhere in the past and he recalled the Heydrich assassination - comparison with the photographs from the site of the attack show, that these old repairs are exactly matching the damage from the bomb blast. Experts from Military Historical Institut confirmed that and they will send the car to police forensic experts. The founder and owner of the car is of course delighted and already said that he will donate the car to the military museum.

Apparently the car was confiscated in 1945, then served with police for some time, then it was stored in army reserves, then most likely sold or something as it was again in the evidence in early 1960s and then the owher left it to rust in the barn, as it seems.

If it does turn out to be his car this is a very important find indeed.
    Thanks Za . :)

The car itself as shown in Max Williams biography of Heydrich Vol 2 "Enigma" ( Ulric of England.)

I thought Heydrich's assassination car had already been displayed in Prague's military museum, and in better nick than that one?
    Felt sure it was here:
Tourism in Prague - Museum of Military History

    Prague Events Gallery
The centrepiece of the exhibition is the open-topped Mercedes - registration number SS-3 - that was driving Heydrich to Hradcany.
Exhibitions mark 60th anniversary of assassination of Nazi governor Heydrich - Radio Prague

Possible that they're just displaying 'a' staff car of Heydrich's, but we could be in for some controversy here.
The value of an already valuable car would be increased stratospherically if linked to the man and his death.

    Hmmmm.

As far as I am aware Adam the one in the museum is not it.

...as well as his grave?? - Češi našli Heydrichův hrob

As for the piece in the exhibtion, this might be helpful:
    Taken from the site above:
Za Heydrichův automobil byl až dosud mylně považován mercedes, který se v roce 2002 stal součástí expozice Atentát. Ve skutečnosti s ním jezdil jiný nacista - velitel Malé pevnosti Terezín Heinrich Jöckel.
My Czech is very bad indeed, but if I'm not mistaken, the car in the museum belonged to Heinrich Jöckel, commandant of the the Gestapo prison Kleine Festung Theresienstadt, who was hanged in 1946.

Heydrich's ( the creature's) grave - if he is still in the Invaliden he could be found , did the Russians remove his body or simply destroy his grave marker ?

I agree , just used GoogleTranslation & got this.

For Heydrichův car was so far mistaken Mercedes, which in 2002 became part of the exhibition assassination. In fact, it ran another Nazi - the master of the Small Fortress Terezin Heinrich Jöckel.

When you look at the blowups in the article, do you think that the car has been 'filled' or had parts replaced, and if so how easy was it to get replacement at the time?

The running board and rear door were virtually destroyed, yet looks to be minimal damage on the new find?

    Andy,

Absolutely. Assassination or Disposal, call it what you will. It was just unfortunate that many innocent people and a town paid the price.:poppy:

"Period" fillers were very poor, compared to the chemical metals and epoxies of a the postwar era ;) But it WAS the era of the leather hammer, the dolly, and the real panelbeater as a skilled tradesman :) A trade now fading fast with age, like so many others...

Interesting. You can see where the really badly damaged section of the mudguard has been cut out and a replacement section brazed in. See the join? The very light colour, dirt and age have accentuated the join. With period handbrushed coachpainting it would be far less noticeable in a dark colour....I presume the crappy blue dates from its career as a police car!!!

If you look at the pic of the "nearside" rear 'guard in Za's first post as the top of this thread, you can see that the mudguards were originally ONE-piece... ;)

I wonder if it had a "reputation" with later owners/users like Jame's Dean's Spyder???

I wish to make it very clear that I have no connection to Mr. Heydrich whatsoever, and that I shall follow this matter through justice for usurpation.
