Hey all. FB here. I'm 19 and live in New Zealand. Real name is Aaron Hope to enjoy my stay. Welcome to the forum matey.
Hey thanks all! And originally from Christchurch until the horrible Earthquakes, now living an hour out of there until we find out what's happening to the house and we've been waiting ages. Our neighbor has had insurance company come round (same as us) but we have not heard anything.
Aaron, Hi, you posted a welcome on my into post that wasn't very well received. I think you simply did not word your email very well and did not mean to cause offence, am I right? What made you join the forum? It is nice that someone so young takes an interest in WWII. On another note I work alongside a few people from Christchurch (I work in London) My boss owns a house there and luckily has min damage - I hope things are improving for you guys x
Welcome to the forum Aaron. I saw your posts and others, on Carly's introduction thread this morning (BST) and couldn't really understand what was going on. I had to go off to work before I could comment. I really don't believe you were meaning to be offensive, you know your grand parents don't use or understand IT and applied that benchmark to 'Veterans'. Understandable to some extent, but not accurate. The veterans on this site do know how to use the IT... Where I think you went particularly wrong was in not accepting that some forum members were offended by what you said. You should have apologised and moved on; they would have forgiven you without reservation. Instead you 'dug a hole' for yourself by being too defensive and sunk into it - I know what that is like... Anyway, I hope the 'fireworks' hasn't put you off, and that you stick around and make contributions to the forum. On a less pleasant note for all in NZ I hope England, not the All Blacks, win the Rugby World Cup. Come on England. Best, Steve.
Hello Aaron, welcome to the forum. Bit of a rocky start though eh? I'm sure you didn't mean to offend anyone, perhaps the initial statement just could have been worded better. As Steve said in the post above, a simple apology would have probably would have been the better route, but hey it happens. Hope you enjoy your time on the forum. From another young member, Meagan
Megan, Carly... You have done well by extending the olive branch to Aaron. Hopefully, he recognizes the spirit of your messages and will do the right thing. This great forum benefits from those that build, not those that tear down. Steve, nice recap. I anticipate Canada will crush any and all opposition. Cheers from the colony, Randy
Hi and welcome Just a couple of points after reading all of this- To earn respect you have to give and be willing to show respect and arn't we meant to "love one another" I agreee with Steve's comments.... except the one about England, not that I am a Rugby follower, but c'mon Aussies, or if you want a bolter then it would be great to see Scotland win!! regards Robert
FB92 - Not being an old curmudgeon I too will join others in welcoming you to the forum inasmuch as I have spent time in your city some years ago and in fact delivered a lecture there on the reason why your City is named Christchurch and sits on the River Avon as does the original Christchurch in Dorset in which I lived at one time. The name comes from the building of a Church in what was known as Twyford ( a corruption of a Viking name) in the tenth century when they ran into problems at which they were joined by a carpenter who neither ate nor drank and disappeared nightly and was responsible for lengthening a beam overnight to fit into the steeple- that beam is still on show to-day. So the powers that be renamed the town to that of Christ's Church ! A second cousin and his family still live in your battered town as he also suffered some damage- so even in that circumstance - you are not alone ! I notice also that you claim to use the attack mode as a defence - which is all fine and dandy BUT - a good soldier does a recce first to ascertain the opposition then ensures that his assets are sufficient to enter into an attack in order to win - and my advice would be that when you find yourself in a hole - stop digging ! Cheers
Aaron, Welcome. There is much for you to learn here, and I also think you may have much to impart. Don't sit back, enjoy, get involved, give us all you got, we will give back and have a great deal of fun doing so. Looking forward to communicating! Mark
