hello and welcome to the forum

you need to try to find out which service he was in

do you have any photos or any other documents

apply for his service records once you have more detail
Get a copy of military service records

you will not find anything on line even if sites promise you they have the info they will not have it

you require the below to apply via the official route
    date of birth
    death cert
    £30 is what is required

    regards
    Clive

Do you know his date of birth? When he got married? If you can get a copy of his marriage certificate, it might have his service number on it if you are lucky, a good place to start.

  10. I did find a Henry who enlisted 1940 and he was married around the same time, so I'm assuming he got married then enlisted.

It does say he was in the
    Royal artillery
    Service number 1552228

With the clues you have only a limited, even if inspired guess can be given now. Once his service record is available then the members can go to work - assembling a history. I will send you more tips on research in a moment.

You will have to be patient as the MoD have a backlog due to something.

It does confirm that there was a man with that name in the RA, is there anything to suggest it is your uncle?

From #12,does this interpret as he was discharged under Para 206 on 29/10/52

Regarding marriage records, I would say that the best option to take is to search the marriage records from the national register of Births, Marriages and Deaths for 1940 which will be set out in the four quarters From there listed will be his surname and forename, the maiden name of his wife (or a previously married name) and the District of marriage .

These personal details would be recorded in a given Volume and Page.

Similarly a search for Henry Whiteley's birth can be ascertained which might involve an extended search. However from the Birth, Marriage and Death records held, associated certificates may be obtained.

Just posted this as William was composing his post.

If the tracer card that you posted is him then he enlisted 8.3.40, his marriage was April/May/June, i.e. just after his enlistment, a good chance that he declared his occupation as a serviceman and it may show details.
If I were you I would get his marriage certificate.

For the record, Killamarsh is in Derbyshire - it has never been in Sheffield. Sheffield is the postal address.

I'll check him out on the 1939 Register and edit this post.
    EDITED:
Not found in Derbyshire or Sheffield in the 1939 Register in but can confirm that in the 1921 Census he was living in Killamarsh, Derbyshire. His birth in 1916 was registered in Eckington in the Chesterfield District. (All info. from findmypast)
