    Hi,

    I was hoping to find out more about my Grandfather who was in the Royal Signals from 1940 to 1946. I have scanned the information I have with a few photographs and it would be interesting to find out anything about the photos, although I know it won't be an easy task.

    The details that are shown are as follows:

    Holburn H. L.
    2334439.
    Driver
    Royal Signals
    20.06.40 to 29.05.46.

    In the pic titled 'soldier' he is on the right ( I think );
    in the pic 006 he is on the right;
    in pic 007 he is in the back row, second from the left and he was over 6ft tall;
    in pic 011, I think this is him next to his truck;
    a few of the pics had the note shown on pic 009 on the rear, which was my only way of knowing they were his.

    I'm not sure if they were all taken at the same time and I thought he was in North Africa but he must have been elsewhere because of the pic with the elephants and Ceylon being stamped on the document shown in pic 014.

    There is other information on the scans but I can't recognise it or understand it.

    Any help would be much appreciated. I don't know a single thing more, and my dad was not interested in his father's past life so I can't get any help there.

    Richard.

    Hello and welcome to the forum.
    The first two slips of paper say he was in 4 Company, 3 Holding Battalion, Royal Signals.

    The best way forward is to apply for his full service records from the MOD in Glasgow. They cost 30 pounds but be prepared for a long wait. You will know exactly what your grandfather did from his records, and from there you can look at the war diaries for more information. This is the link to apply
