Just an update as I have spent a little time on the fuel tanks by adding the wooden slats, which were standard in 1944 to help prevent damage from stray bullets and shell fragmentations.

I have just glued them in position and placed the hull back with nothing fouling.

I had some fun with a very small drill putting dimples in the MG34, which should please Miguel :D.

I also drilled the barrel out a little which was a little tricky seeing that for this operation I left the gun on its mount.

Photos with and without flash, without gives the better colour of the Dark Yellow factory undercoat.

The steel cables were undercoated and painted with metal finish and I clipped them back on just to see how they looked.

I have seen photographs of Large blocks of wood wedged inside the spare track guides and decided to place a railway sleeper in it's place, which looks novel.

    Regards
    Tom

Nice work Tom. The engine work looks really nice and makes quite a difference.

    DG,

Thanks. I am thinking of starting camouflage colours soon.

So now we have two Tigers coming along quite nicely :)

Tow, how did you know I was going to pounce on your MG? :D

    Miguel,

You were right about the MG 34 and I have altered the stock so it looks like it should, round where it meets the metal of the gun mechanism:)

I have airbrushed the dark green and the dark earth red. The dark earth red is a little too much for me, but when I visited Munster Tank Museum, their Panzers were the same colour and so I believe it is ok.

A little touching up required and tyres painted dark for the rubber, plus spockets metalising where they contact the track links.

When finished I will reconnect the internal wiring and see if it works.
If not, no harm done, as it looks like being a static display in the workroom or office.

    Regards
    Tom

Fine so far, and the colours do look entirely acceptable. Are you going to go the oily-grimy-dusty-muddy path? :)

Tom, now that you are at it may I make a suggestion for your next subject?

    Miguel,

That is a nice piece of modelling.

But my 1/6 scale Schwimm Wagen is next on my list when I have some spare time.;)

I am only just beginning to recover from my basement room renovation:D

I was trawling through the net to find a 3-view of a P-1000 to make a 1:300 model for the fun of it when I stumbled upon this priceless gem:

The Germans did have jet powered aircraft in their arsenal, they just didn't use it because Hitler said so. It's a good thing these ideas were never made, nor did they ever find the Holy Grail. At the end of the war, German UFO scientist were taken before Russia ever found out about so.

I found it corny though that the Nazi ground troops were nicknamed stormtroopers.
    Give me strength!

Finally cracked and bought a Heng Long BB-firing Tigger 1, as Maplin are doing 'em for the relatively bargaintastic price of £60 this month:

Tiger I 116 Scale Radio Control Battle Tank with BB firing Free Delivery : Remote Controlled Land : Maplin
(I can share that now - didn't want to earlier in case one of you bastards snapped up the sole example in stock at the Leicester Branch ;).)

Only had a brief go so far.
Looks pretty good for the price - Gun is indeed daftly short, but other than that a quick shufti makes me think; 'mostly about right' - something slightly odd about the 'stance' of the turret maybe, and a few bits and pieces that nerdism will no doubt get me fixing during the painting process - quite looking forward to getting the Airbrush out... Not done a three colour smudge camo for a while, so fancied that, but as it's all Feifel-ed up I may be stunningly unoriginal and go for a Bovington 131 scheme... We'll see.
(The 'Engrish' instructions are a hoot - almost unintelligible. Is there a whole layer of translation agencies in China that are basically taking the piss?..)

By the way; don't think I'll be able to fix the Permanently recoiled looking gun barrel as the BB firing is just too funny/violent - the cat has demonstrated it's species's uncanny sixth sense and completely disappeared from the moment I took it out of the box...

Will endeavour to post 'upgrade' process as it begins.

    Vroom vroom.

    Adam,

    Have fun!

The turret is pretty good as the original was not symmetrical ;).

Sadly Clive, it emits a red glow from a light in the mantle while the BB gun is cycling, so the missus has time to duck & cover.
Might have to snip that wire...

Tom, your zimmeritting is putting me to shame - really nice job - I fear it's a reluctance to engage on that score that means I'll be laying off the flecktarn and going for a OliveGrun/Dunkelgelb scheme...

    Adam,

The zimmeritt was a first attempt for me and really an experiment.

It is not perfect, but then, what is. The end product looks pleasing to the eye and when sprayed looks ok.

I have not got around to purchasing Balkan Crosses, but have placed numbers on the turret (Large 1/35 Scale are ok).
The only trouble is the zimmeritt makes it difficult for the decals to be applied even when liberally coated with decal soft.

I may make some stencils and spray them when I have a spare minute or so.

    Have fun.

    Regards
    Tom

    Tom,

Try painting the area where the decal is to be placed with gloss varnish. Two or three thin coats allowing each to dry first, maybe more if necessary, then place your decals on using the microsol liquid and allow to dry. Then spray the whole tank with matt varnish. Voila! looks great, no silvering, and wont flake off.

    Regards, Ned.

First thoughts on watching the kids run it round the local park are that the Trunnions and Driver's Vision Hatch need tarting up.

Horrid feeling that nerdism is gonna kick in here, and I might go for a rather more precise copy of 131 than I first intended. Got some good clear shots of the battle damage last time I saw the old dear run, and always quite enjoyed melting things with a soldering iron...

Main barrier to that is that I really fancy doing a somewhat OTT flecked ambush pattern - that'd be damned good fun at this scale - maybe I need to buy another.
(BTW - I like the etched mesh over the engine covers - might have to buy some sheet and go for that as a positive start. Not sure I've got any overhead views of 131 though.)

Oh dear... I thought I'd extracted myself from Tigerism... I forsee that I'm going to be surrounded by Tiger books again before the week's out.

And then there's snow camo... I like snow camo, and always thoroughly enjoyed the salt method of applying wear and tear.
    Hmmmmm, again.
