Smudger... are you going to smooth the mock zimmerite marks off the mantlet or are you going to cover the rest of the hull in it ?

    Richard,

That is indeed a very good question.

Looking at the many photographs of Tigers there are lots in different guises at the same period in time.

I do think it would look good in Zimmerit overall, but will have to think how to apply it.

I have seen tools advertised to stamp it yourself, which is a good way of rendering the finish.

I will look at means of making my own stamp.

Any suggestions on material to use would be very welcome, something like milliput I was thinking, but if anyone knows of a good method I am always open to suggestions.

    Regards
    Tom

Have a look at the tankzone website they have lots of upgrade goodies for the Heng Long Tiger I incuding Zimmerite kits. Perhaps it might give some food for thought if nothing else.

    Tiger Buff,

Thanks. I have also treated myself to an Osprey Publication.
    Modelling the Tiger I.

I suppose if you want to spend a huge amount of money on accessories than it will become a superb model.

At the moment I will make do with what I have and try to make a nice model out of it.

A 1/6 scale is slightly out of my reach, but we can always dream:D

Yes it's like the voice of Satan whispering in your ear isn't it? "Go on you know you want to"!

    Richard,

I have started the process of applying Zimmerit (Milliput fine epoxy putty).

As all the articles stated, it is a little messy, but going on ok.

I am using an old comb to make the indentations and it looks ok to me.

I have the sides, front glacis plate and the turret to treat as yet, but I think it will look well when finished.

I thought that ther rear end would be a pain due to all the exhausts and accessories, but I took them off after marking the profiles and then applied the putty.

Now the pieces are returned and the rear plate glued into place.

I will post some photographs when I have finished the process.

    Regards
    Tom

Thanks to all for the information regarding the Zimmerit.

I have cut and placed a periscope with cover on the turret in front of the gunners hatch and air extractor.

Small snakes of milliput putty were formed to place around the hatches and then marked to look like electric arc welding.

I still have to apply the model Zimmerit to the sides and the Turret.

The sides will be no problem, but the turret will have to be assembled first as the base is also incorporating some of the side panels and therefore requires to be assembled first.

The inside of the mantel mounts are being reinforced and when finished and functioning I will secure and apply the Zimmerit.

Here are a few photographs of the process so far, which looks a little rough, but when painted should look ok, I hope.

It's starting to look good. Did use that shovel as a zimmerit trowel?

That MG on the cupola, it used to have holes in the jacket as the one in the hull, not pips... I'm sure you can deal with this detail as masterfully as ever :)

    Miguel,

I do have some very small drills ;).

I am quite beginning to like this little diversion with a smaller scale:D

nice... iam going to strip my youngun's Tiger for him and paint it up but dont know what to go for...Kursk ala mine or something else..... need to fix the track issue with it..... it keeps throwing the offside track off...... it has metal tracks and sprockets but the road wheels and idlers are plastic..methinks the problem lies there.

i really want a stug 3 next... had a look on ebay you can get the aditional side armour plates for them now.
