Throught i would ask this before i ask my question, are there any Red army reserchers/ re-enacters etc that can answer my question of unifroms? Is is there another forum for that kind of thing... Edit- Silly thing to say, of corse there's people ! So my question is regarding russian sholder boards. So in the following photo, they should represent the russian equivilent of a Corporal rank, with the red stripe, yet there are also 2 badges that look like 2 swords crossing inbetween a horseshoe. Can anyone tell me what the badges mean or represent?
Swords & Horseshoe = Cavalry Branch Emblem. If the Emblem is Cavalry, seems likely the piping should be blue, but this doesn't appear to have been as hard & fast in actual use as eg. Waffenfarbe.
Try posting it on the Gentlemen's Military Interest Club-- there should be someone there who can help you out. Gentleman's Military Interest Club Doc
If you are going to portray a Soviet soldier from the Great Patriotic War first things first.... GET YOUR HAIRCUT!!!!! I suggest a look around this excellent website. RKKA in World War II especially this section on uniforms . http://www.armchairgeneral.com/rkkaww2/uniform.htm
LOL, yeah i do need a bit of a trim. So it's safe to say i can remove these if i was joining say a rifles division? Say the 2nd guards in perticular. Also, another strange things it looks like stripes on the left brest of the jacket. It's 3 lines with the top one being yellow and the bottom 2 being red. Does this mean anything ?
Red stripe indicates Corporal as you have said. Not sure on the yellow over red stripes though. http://www.militaryimages.net/photopost/data/563/sovietranks-2.jpg
Thanks Owen, i've done alot of reserch and had alot of help. The badges ment a Cavalry group and the stripes were a wound badge. Both have been removed (Y) Currently working on my Ushanka. Does anyone, or yourself, think this is a period style ?
I think your uniform would look better if you wore a side cap instead. Like this. Comrade Ivan Soviet WW2 Headwear - Red Army Caps, Soviet Helmets - WWII Your uniform looks quite thin so why wear a winter hat with it?
I wouldn't say it's thin, i was wearing a telegroika which is the opposite of thin :L As far as the Pilotka goes, i should be buying one at Victory show Might be post war, but will that work?
