Hi Liverbird I would suggest you edit your first post and by using full editor, add some tags to your thread - eg Far East POW, his name, etc as this will then be more easily picked up by those members that can help you most. TD edited to add: I would also suggest you add Far East POW in the title as well
Hi, and welcome. I do not show a Robert or Samuel BOLTON in the Japanese POW lists I have. One R. Bolton in Italy and 2 R. Boltons and 1 S. Bolton in Germany. No way to ID whether one of these chaps is your guy. You say you have a picture - is he in uniform? If the photo has any kind of Military bent you may want to post it - someone may be able to provide a tidbit of info that may lead in a more specific direction for your research. First Name R. Last Name Bolton Rank Private Regt / Unit East Yorkshire Regiment Soldier Number 4345888 POW Number 258095 Camp Stalag IV-C Camp Location Bystrice, Czech Republic First Name R. Last Name Bolton Rank Gunner Regt / Unit Royal Artillery Soldier Number 1073236 POW Number 14323 Camp Stalag XX-B Camp Location Malbork, Poland And 1 S. Bolton First Name S. As Wayne says their are no Robert or Samuel Boltons in any Japanese POW listings that I've seen. I can't make the photograph on post 2 enlarge as it usually might. Can anyone help Liverbird with this, or is it just me that can't open it?
I cant open the attachment in post #2 either. In fact when I merged the duplicate threads earlier it didnt even show as a photo just as an attachment number.

Thank you all for your responses I'll try for his service records, it was 1 of his sisters who said he was a pow, that he suffered terribly but he never discussed it, thank you once again
Thank you all for your help and advice from which I have since learnt that my grandfather was in the royal artillery and I now have his soldier number, I should now be able to continue my research your help and advice is greatly appreciated
Good luck going forward Liverbird. Easy for me to say now, but even with looking at the small image of his photo, my guess would have been Royal Artillery from the cap badge shape.
