    Good evening

I hope I've posted this on the correct forum but I'd be grateful if someone could help me with IDs of my Uncle's medals (photo attached). I think I've come up with the correct ID for Nos 1 and 4 but am unsure about No 2 and can't ID No 3.

He served in the Royal Navy in WW2.

From left to right, I think he has:-

    1. 1939 - 1945 Star
    2. Atlantic Star (although the ribbon looks possibly the wrong colour?)
    3. Unknown
    4. War Medal 1939 - 1945

Many thanks in advance for any help given.

    Kind Regards

    David

Many thanks bamboo43 and BFBSM for your help. I had considered it may be the Defence Medal but thought the ribbon was no quite right but I appreciate your help in clarifying this.

    Kind Regards

    Your medals are all miniatures

He would have had full sized as well.

    Hi James

I don't actually have the medals, they are in the possession of my cousin who sent me the photo. I've attached the full version of the photo which I cropped for my original post.

I thought they were and looked full size... how can you tell they're miniatures? I'd be grateful for your thoughts when you see them alongside some other artefacts.

    Regards

    David

The size of the stars compared to the medals

The rings are tiny, also the suspender bar on the medals are small by comparison

Thought I'd make it easier for you

Pic shows my original (issued) medal set PLUS miniatures bought online.

    ps
Just in case you wanted to know about the different mounting of medals, we discussed it in full on this thread: Court Mounted Medals (And Medal related 'show & tell').

Thank you all for your help re my Uncle's medals... I shall discuss further with my cousin since I am now interested to know what has happened to the original, full sized medals.

    Regards

The patch was that of an Anti-Aircraft Rating 3rd Class.

Many thanks Pember... it's actually interesting about the patch because on the attached photo of my Uncle Jim, he is wearing a patch of what I understand is a 'Quarters Gunnery Rating Third Class' and I hadn't actually noticed that this is different from the one you have identified as an 'Anti-Aircraft Rating 3rd Class'. He obviously changed roles (maybe more than once?) during his time in the Navy.

Thank you for your help and kind regard

    David
