Hi Everyone, I have noticed this thread and wondered, if anyone sees it, if I could ask help with a Sailor who, I think may have come from, or lived in Flintshire. On the above newspaper cutting he is referred to as H. TODD, but I believe he is H. DODD, his Service No. is shown as - XJ9848, whereas on the CWGC his No. is, I believe - P/X 9848B. I am trying to pin him down as the right serviceman who died , I have another one that might also fit the bill. - DODD, H.– (Harold) Private 4127421 2nd Bn. Cheshire Regiment. Died Between 23/03/1943 and 24/03/1943 Son of Mary Dodd, of Saltney, Flintshire. Buried at Enfidaville War Cemetery - Location: Tunisia – Inscription – “God Rest You, My Son You Gave Of Your Best. Never Forgotten By Mother, Hilda And Kathleen .”– please inform me if this is wrong, at one time Shotton was part of West Saltney. (Birthplace and residence in Chester.). Any help would be appreciated. Kind regards, Mavis Williams.
Mavis, I moved your post from where it was to a new thread all of it's own. It was this one in case anyone wonders what newspaper cutting Mavis refers to. Remembering Today 5/11/39 Seaman:A.J. Paterson,P/X20646A,R.N. Reserve H.M. Trawler Northern Rover Guy Hudson posted this. This is Dodd's CWGC entry P/X 9848B H Dodd I assume you finding out about the H Dodd listed on here. 7116 Connah’s Quay and Shotton War Memorial – A Part of Wales Forever England?
Well done Owen. Mavis, could you clarify precisely what you are looking for? You ask for help with a sailor and have found one; the other H Dodd was in the army. If the Connah’s Quay connection is correct then Harry Dodd looks like the son of Richard & Gertrude Dodd of 19 Cable Street (in 1911), other children Albert & Elsie. Possible that Harry married Catherine Edwards in 1939 and she may have a dob 6/9/1911. All speculation, but if you can provide some more info.
I've found this WW2 Servicemen Mavis is on there so we are after the H Dodd on there Connahs Quay and Shotton War Memorial
