Help with finding family member info - 6 RTC Egypt 1937 - Williams

    War Diaries of the 6th Royal Tank Regiment
    This movement was observed by the enemy and heavy fire was brought down on the crew. Tpr Horsman wounded but brought back by stretcher, by, Tpr Watling and Tpr Williams under heavy fire from MG


    In fact it seems someone has written out the War Diaries for this Regiment

    Apologises to those who have already attached the links to the War Diaries - put it down to dementia

    I have sent them an email but no reply as yet. Thank you TD, will have a look through the war diaries too.

    Hi,

    No requirement to produce a birth certificate on enlistment in those days. My father claimed to be 18 when he enlisted in local TA Battalion in 1935 just after his 17th birthday (I have his papers).

    Despite a warning of the penalty of imprisonment for mis stating age on enlistment it did regularly happen.

    Sometimes its just a matter of pot luck and something turns up - I have no idea if the Tpr Williams in that article is your relative, but at times like this any and every avenue is a possible until discounted
