Hi, my name is Steve Tatgenhorst. I am hopeful someone can help me out. First, let me say thank you to all the men and women that are serving and have served our nation in the past. I am truly in awe of your courage and dedication.

I am hoping someone can help me to identify and give me some information on an ammo box that I received from a friend. I know his grandfather served, and saw combat. Please, if anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.

The box appears to date from 1954 with a re-pack in 1955 and with an American Federal Stock Number (FSN 1949-1975 until replaced by an NSN). By looking up the FSN on the side you can work out exactly what type of ammo it would have contained (besides being .30 cal Machine Gun ammo).

    WebFLIS - Public Search

Nothing really of note - if I'm reading WebFlis correctly the ammo was ARMOR PIERCING AND TRACER

Steve. This is a container for 2,000 rounds of .30 machine gun ammunition. The ammunition came as a belt and was distributed along the belt on a ratio of one tracer round to four armour piercing rounds.

I am not sure whether it is British or US. British ammunition normally came in brown containers with yellow text.

Have edited the thread title as 'Help' by itself was rather vague.
Hope adding 'with Ammo box' will attract more attention.
