Any ideas which army this gentleman may have served with. Leonard George Phillips Lived in New Zealand and on the rolls 1954 to his death in 1969. Buried in New Zealand at the Waikanae Cemetery, Kapiti. Not on the New Zealand cenotaph as serving with the NZEF, but not all WW2 men are on it at present. There is a photo of Leonard on the headstone wearing a military uniform, he is not buried in an RSA plot. Plot Record Details Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hi Wendy I would think it best to obtain his service records - I think the link is - https://www.govt.nz/browse/history-...-history/military-history-records-and-medals/ If they are similar to British ones then they should say where he was and with which units - I would also advise you to edit your post above and in doing so it allows you to edit the thread title so you can add New Zealand to it so that other kiwi members can hopefully add to this thread TD
HI Yes it does, but the picture does not blow up well enough to see close up. You could contact - postal address NZDF Archives Personnel Enquiries Trentham Military Camp Private Bag 905 UPPER HUTT 5140 New Zealand telephone +64 4 527 5280 website http://www.nzdf.mil.nz/personnel-records/nzdf-archives I cant see him on any of the NZ WW2 lists on Ancestry? regards Robert
Found a Leonard George Phillips on London Gazette from 1944 Page 1488 | Supplement 36446, 28 March 1944 | London Gazette | The Gazette ROYAL ARMY SERVICE CORPS 19th Feb. 1944 T/290600 Leonard George PHILLIPS (311421). Page 4651 | Supplement 39635, 29 September 1952 | London Gazette | The Gazette ROYAL ARMY SERVICE CORPS. The undermentioned officers relinquish their commns., 3rd Sept. 1952, and are granted the hon. ranks as shown: —Capt. Lt. L. G. PHILLIPS (311421) Could have emigrated to NZ post-war
Thank you everyone. I think that may be him Owen. With not being able to find him on the NZ roll earlier than 1954 I think he must have served outside of NZ. I will look into everything you have posted. Many thanks to all who replied.
Wendy The above is based on the assumption he was in the NZ army - if however you find he was in the British army and emigrated after WW2 then the link to his service records application forms is - Request records of deceased service personnel TD
I'm a little late to the party I know, but I work at NZDF Personnel Archives and can confirm that the only Leonard George PHILLIPS who ever served in the New Zealand military was born in 1958.
Perhaps Wendy could come back with an update - always interesting to learn the results and my help others. Not seen since TD's last post.
