Please get back to me ASAP! I need to know what the A in the cirlce means and the oval shaped things are. I know what everything else is. Thanks! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v345/Bon...ii/P1010089.gif
It is hard to make out. Any chance you could enlarge the image without losing definition? I think the "A" symbol may be the 7th Army badge. Does the letter "A" have stepped sides with seven steps on each side?

Does the letter "A" have stepped sides with seven steps on each side? [post=29160]Quoted post[/post] I managed to make it out. It's US 3rd Army. The others need to be enlarged though. 7th Army is the vaguely triangle shaped badge posted by MOH a couple of days ago. As stated above "stepped sides with seven steps on each side". Both 7th Army and 3rd Army were commanded by "Blood and Guts" Patton. He was sacked from 7th Army for slapping shell shocked GIs, but later put in charge of 3rd Army for the fighting in NW Europe. Patton was a great success 1944-45 which, possibly, shows you that one thing needed to be a General is to be an a-hole.
I managed to make it out. It's US 3rd Army. The others need to be enlarged though. I forgot to say. The 3rd Army patch originated just after WW1 in Germany. This was the American garrison of Germany. The A and O in the patch stand for Army of Occupation. The sign was revived for WW2.
I dont know how much better this one is... but Ill see if I can do better: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v345/BondOO7/wwii/pic2.jpg
If it had ben colour I could have done a lot more with it, but this as close in as I could get without distorting the image. Cant really define the A still
