Help tracing 962 Tank Transporter Coy RASC Hello, I am trying to investigate where my dad was posted during WW2, he was in the RASC 962 Tank Transporter Coy 1944-48. I wondered if anyone can help! Where should I start? :frown: I have his Army No, release book and pay book and a couple of photos. I know he was a staff sergeant and spent some time in Italy and possible Egypt but that is all. Thank-you
Hello and welcome to the forum. I can't seem to find any 962 Company war diaries in the RASC at the National Archives. Can I ask what your source is for the unit? Regards Andy
Not sure (My area is 1940). You could do worse than apply for a copy of his service records from the MoD. They will list all of his units and when he was with them. The only down sides are they cost £30 and the waiting list is around 9 months long.
I've just done a wide search for 962 and the only thing I'm getting back of note is a Royal Engineer Company that served in North West Europe during WW2.
No probs. It may be there isn't any diaries but I find that unlikely. Sometimes one is missing but not a whole series. It could be the company was part of a larger formation and that is what the diary is listed under. Hopefully the service records will help so do keep us posted. Andy
Yes I will definitely let you know what I find out from the MOD. I did print out a searchlight tatoo article that does mention 962 tt joining 44 and becoming 101 in 1948. Thanks again Andy. Regards Jacqui

Hi Siddy - it looks like you have made a good start. Can you scan and attach the records, that way others can maybe spot clues that are not readily apparent. Can you also provide his full name and service number, it is amazing what exists in other records.
Hi DaveB, yes I will scan and attach later when I can access a scannner. His full name is Ernest Johnson and his army number is T/14859244 . He originally signed up for the RAF number 2224063 aircraftman 2nd class but he was only there for a short while, from March 1944 to Oct 1944, as he was not tall enough to be a pilot, so he transferred to 962 COY TK TRSPR in oct 1944.
