Help to identify a definitive regiment please - RA

    thanks guys- not sure about the south shields reference, where did you find that info RCG? the family were mostly form newcastle and central gateshead, i did the family tree and i may have had some bother with an imposter but my memory isnt what it used to be! im now questioning my data!? :)
    i know when i was looking for him a while ago im sure his surname was mis-spelled too... i wish i could remember!

    Muppety, Earlier in this post you asked about transport in India. I discovered through the diaries I published- see below- that soldiers made very long journeys all over India using trains, as well as boats and lorries. Sometimes whole trains were taken over by the military- say when a Battalion was on the move. Or if there were smaller numbers they travelled on the regular services, sharing with the locals. Owing to the distances involved they could be on trains not just for hours but for days. If they were lucky when they arrived at their destination, there would be motor transport to take them to their camp. Otherwise they marched.
