Hi All, As many of you know I have been working to restore our local memorial for some time. We have now made huge progress and the campaign has grown to improve the facilities, add a historical walk, garden of remembrance, clearing of the river and floodlighting, adding new names, planting trees, and resiting the actual memorial. Total estimated cost around £1.5m The grant is at first stage and one thing we need to prove is a will to see such heritage restored, improved and maintained. On our website Wickford War Memorial you can sign our guest book, take 1 minute and your message can be as short as you like!! However they will all help. Thanks in advance Steve
Good work Steve. A very worthwhile project. I am cataloguing the 10,836 RAAF burials around the world during WW2 and collecting photos of their headstones. I checked on the Australian database and luckily the only RAAF person born in Wickford survived the war. There was also an Army entry who also survived. <table class="nristabletextborder" summary="Table of Search Results" align="center" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr valign="top"><td class="nristablerow">FLANDERS, GEORGE EDWARD</td> <td class="nristablerow">Q69236</td> <td class="nristablerow">29 Jun 1894</td> <td class="nristablerow">WICKFORD, ENGLAND</td> <td class="nristablerow">Army</td> </tr> <tr valign="top"> <td class="nristablerow">LANDER, CHARLES ABRAHAM</td> <td class="nristablerow">40959</td> <td class="nristablerow">17 Oct 1913</td> <td class="nristablerow">WICKFORD, ENGLAND</td> <td class="nristablerow">RAAF</td></tr></tbody></table> Cheers Geoff
Hi Geoff We did have one man who was with the AIF killed and a number of others who served and survived. The man who was KIA was Frank Arthur French, 59th Bttn AIF, DOW 19/3/17. I have a fair bit on his action and death but alas not a picture, if you want the info I will happily send on? Cheers Steve

Sorry Geoff, I saw his date of birth 1894 and thought he would be a WW1 man, having seen his record from the link you posted I see he was an instructor with a pretty short WW2 career!!! Cheers Steve
