Hi , My father was is 969 IWT Company Royal Engineers from join up in 1942 until 1945 , I believe He would never talk about his army live much , only that his friends all died in the FAR EAST were he was posted with them . That they all smoked SOMETHING ? To boost their ability out there . He was transported in Jolly Green Giant Helicopters , which he always felt sick in from bouncing around. I am waiting for his full details to come back from MOD I have searched the site , but have not found anything on 969 IWT Can anyone tell or advice me on anything I have a few photos of him , but many have been taken by other people throughout the years Thanks in advance Rob

Hallo Rob, Welcome to the forum, Hope that you are successful in your search, I have personally found the exercise to be most rewarding. Regarding the comment on the JGG helicopters these were very much a post WW2 development and I have attached some info on the actual JGG. This is not say that your father was not carried in helicopters but it would be worth checking the dates to get a better idea of the actual type. http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=17538 The HH-3E "Jolly Green Giant" was a specialized development of the original Sikorsky CH-3 transport helicopter. The HH-3E was specifically designed for Combat Search & Rescue (CSAR) which required long operational ranges, loitering times and hovering qualities and appeared during the American involvement in the Vietnam War (1955-1975). Due to its "combat" SAR classification, the HH-3E was purposely developed with extra protection for the crew and systems when operating in a theater of war. The HH-3E Jolly Green Giant is no longer in service with US military forces.
